Singles Can Change The World!!!
Chad and Mara Winchell currently reside in the Northern Virginia Church of Christ. They've been disciples for over 25 years and have previously spent years in our European family of churches. In 2012, the Northern Virginia Church of Christ sent Chad and Mara back to Europe on a trip to encourage the disciples in Zagreb, Croatia, where they had spent several years. So then they thought, "Why not take some single disciples with us?" They added a stop in Amsterdam, Netherlands to visit and encourage the disciples there, and since they had been on the planting team in Madrid, Spain, why not stop there, too? A mission trip was born!

This became known as the 2012 Euro Singles Mission Trip. It was a group of 16 disciples from the US! 9 from the Northern Virginia Church of Christ, 2 from L.A., 4 from the SF Bay Area , and one from the Montgomery County, MD! They had a blast! In 2013, another group of 13 went to visit and encourage the churches in Paris, France, Geneva, Switzerland, and Milan, Italy! This was another incredible time meeting our faithful brothers and sisters in these beautiful cities!

In 2015, the acronym S.U.R.G.E. was adopted (Singles United Representing God Everywhere) and two more trips were made to Europe and Brazil. About 25 single disciples went on the SURGE Europe trip in June and 10 singles from 9 different cities went to Brazil in October. In October of 2016, about 20 single disciples attended the "Las Americas" Conference in Lima, Peru. Afterwards, many traveled to see one of the "Wonders of the World" ......the mountain-top ruins of Machu Picchu!!! The final leg of the trip included visits to Medellin, Colombia, Asuncion, Paraguay, and Santa Cruz, Bolivia. In 2017, 32 singles signed up for SURGE Europe to Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Romania, & Bulgaria. In 2018, a group went to Chile & Ecuador! Europe in 2019 & 2020. South America again in 2021!
